I’d never originally planned to have a guestbook, but at some point, on the previous incarnation of this site, my bio page turned into one and I realized how much I appreciated it. It’s great getting notes from old friends and meeting new ones. Here then is a real guestbook. I’d love it if you signed.

Did you ever see the Encycolopedia Brown Video Mystery Series? I sooo wanted to be Jenny and had the hugest crush on EB. In the series Encycopledia Brown is pretty cool and he’s really into baseball.
I did indeed see a couple of episodes. And I remember the books, too—or pieces of them. I recall the one where he helps the kid who got shoved in a locker.
Josh this is an awesome website. It is wonderful to see all of the things you have accomplished. I have known Josh for around 20 years and he has always been destined for greatness and yes very Encyclopedia like:-)
Thanks, Jen. You’re too kind to me, as always. Glad you like the site!
Hello,
I’m coming here from the Options Forum [Justin Tadlock's]. I really like what you’ve done with the theme…the white bg and so on.
How did you get the «subscribe by email» there? I would like that too..
Cheerio from QC, Canada
Hi Rebkin,
Thanks much! It’s long overdue for an overhaul, actually. I’m still running the first beta version of the theme, and I see Justin’s made quite a few improvements since then.
Anyhow, I use the WordPress Email Notification plugin by Brian Groce. The ReadMe file for the plugin includes the code for the subscribe form, and I simply cut-n-pasted it into an Options custom widget with some changes to the descriptive text.
I know Justin does subscribe-by-email differently. I never quite figured out his system (it’s on my to-do list). In any case, after I added the plugin, I placed an anchor tag next to the subscribe widget in the sidebar, and altered the “subscribe by email” links to point to it. It’s not as elegant a solution as I’d like, but I’m waiting until my next maintenance spree to do anything about it.
Anyhow, I appreciate the kind words! Check back anytime you like and feel free to ask questions. I was an active forum participant early on, but have since succumbed entirely to grad school. Toward the end of the summer I hope to break free from work long enough to do something useful, both to this site, and at the forums.
Thanks for stopping by!
I’m going to try it. Feeling a little uncertain about the Options custom widget though… I’m totally clueless when it comes to stuff like PHP.
Let me know how it works for you! I’m horrible with php as well. I usually find a few lines of code that look promising and cut-n-paste or comment-out until the thing that’s annoying me starts working or disappears. I’m going to try and learn a bit more with my (currently mythical) vacation time at the end of the summer. And maybe take a course on it in the fall. I’ll see what I can figure out concerning the Options updates at that point as well.
Hello Josh- had an eye on your site ever since John Alexander passed away. I was a good friend of his via a mutual friend from his years at ABC (she is now in New Mexico working for Barak)… The reason for this post: I found it funny that you are from Bakersfield. I am from Visalia! What did a man from Ohio have to do with two kids from the Central Valley? A testament to his character. Miss the man…
Hey, Margaret. Nice to meet someone from the Central Valley!
I miss him, too. Seems like every day I come across some song, news item, meal, movie, project, or experience that makes me think of him—”John would love this.” Today it’s a song, “Ambassador of Cinema,” by a band called Maserati that sounds a lot like a group he enjoyed.
Thanks for stopping by the site—I promise I actually maintain it, though it hasn’t changed for months. I’ve been finishing my M.S. degree, which has occupied all my time. But I’m enrolled in a Web programming class at the moment, so I’m sure I’ll be back to tinkering soon.
Hi Josh.
Sarah, Brendan, Ben Krasnow and I had dinner last night. We missed your sparkling company. I’m not sure why this led me to your Web page, but just thought I’d check in. Hope all is well.
Also, and I feel it is important to do this to your guestbook, Eric Simons was here.
