Friends

Brendan Getzell's Homepage

My old roommate.  Always interesting and usually right.  He's also a great musician.

Craig Harmelin's Homepage

One of the guys I used to live with.  He speaks five languages (and probably more by now), but if you

ask him he'll say he's still learning English.?

Ben White's Homepage

Ben's another one of my old roommates.  He started school as a computer engineering major, then

switched to sociology.  Then finally put his education to use as a professional ski lift operator in Tahoe.

He, too, is an excellent musician and is currently starting work in the recording business.  He's probably

seen The Big Lebowski more times than any other person alive.

Long Distance

A link to the Sacramento Film Festival's review of "Long Distance," a 16mm short film directed by my

old friend and housemate Greg Hirsh.

Eric Simons' Homepage

One of my best friends from college.  A freelance travel journalist, Eric has worked for the Los

Angeles Times and the Oakland Tribune. He is currently working on a compendium about his travels in

South America and working out schemes to visit his girlfriend while avoiding her small yappy dog.

She's also a friend of mine (the girl, not the dog), and her homepage can be found here

Brendan Buhler's Homepage

My good friend.  A brilliant man destined to be one of the great writers of our time.  One of the few

college students who could make smoking and drinking seem classy, he has raised substance abuse to an

art form.  He currently works for the Los Angeles Times.

Companies

The Daily Nexus

The student newspaper I worked for at UCSB.  Love it.  Hate it.  Drool on it indifferently as you sleep

through your 8 a.m. class.  It'll still be on the newsstands bright and early every day.

Morningstar Entertainment

The fun television production company I worked for out in Los Angeles.  A great little mom and pop

shop that went from producing sexual harassment awareness videos and Buns of Steel to becoming a

successful contract company producing programming for the A&E and Discovery networks.

Chip Taylor Communications

The New Hampshire film distributor that sells my documentary and to whom I owe a debt of gratitude.

ABC News Nightline

A program that needs no introduction and one at which I was lucky enough to intern for a semester in

graduate school.  Nightline is staffed by the nicest and most generous people in journalism, who happen

also to be extraordinarily talented.

Seed Magazine

Science is culture.  The hip young science magazine where I worked from 2005 to 2006.

WNYC/Radio Lab

A radio show I freelance for.  The tagline at Radio Lab is "magical realism for radio."  What could I

possibly add to that?

Points of Interest

Bioethics.net

The website of the American Journal of Bioethics, edited by my friend and former advisor Glenn

McGee.  It's an impressive jumping off point for more-than-you-ever-wanted-to-know about all things

medical.

HowStuffWorks.com

If you have to figure out how a semiconductor works in less than twenty minutes - and you can't talk to

me - you should check out this site.

Always more to come...
